Stichting DOEN supports pioneers building a greener, more social and more creative society - as the foundation of the Dutch Postcode Lottery and the VriendenLoterij. After winning the pitch, we became the build partner for their complete digital renewal in 2025.
The challenge
The old website offered plenty of content but lacked structure: visitors did not always know where to go, and keeping content up to date cost the team a lot of time. The technology was outdated too, which made extending it difficult. And the assignment was bigger than one site: DOEN wanted a family of six - doen.nl, DOEN Ventures, the VriendenLoterij Fonds, the Postcode Loterij Buurtfonds, the Postcode Loterij Fonds and DOEN Participaties - each with its own face, but without six times the maintenance burden. On top of that the sites had to talk to the systems behind them, so applications and projects are never retyped by hand.
Our approach
We started with the audience: who visits doen.nl, what are they looking for, and how do you present that logically? On that basis we developed a new structure and a visual design that offers calm and clarity:
- One WordPress multisite environment as the technical foundation for all six brands
- Reusable content blocks: each fund its own identity, management handled centrally
- Integrations with NetSuite (financial administration) and the grant-management system Optimy, so projects and applications stay in sync across the site and the back-office systems
- A Quickscan tool that lets initiators quickly gauge whether their plan fits the fund - before they submit an application
- A content structure the team maintains itself, without a developer

The result
The new doen.nl and doenventures.com are live: clear, user-friendly and technically strong. Content is better structured, navigation more intuitive, and managing it costs the team considerably less time. The next sites in the series build on the same foundation - so the platform grows along with DOEN's mission.
